Learn more about Bampton’s Clubs, Activities and Pastimes

For generations, clubs, societies and community organisations have played an important role in the social life of Bampton. From sports teams and gardening clubs to youth groups, musical societies and fundraising events, village activities have helped bring people together and strengthen community life across the parish.

Throughout the twentieth century, Bampton supported a remarkable variety of organisations reflecting the interests of local residents of all ages. Many clubs met in the Village Hall, the WI Hall, the British Legion or the Old Grammar School, which became an important centre for community activities after its days as a school had ended. Girl Guides, Brownies and Scouts all used the building for meetings and events, continuing a long tradition of youth organisations in the village.

The Bampton Community Archive preserves photographs, posters, programmes and documents relating to these clubs and activities, providing a valuable record of everyday village life and the friendships, traditions and shared experiences that helped shape the community.
