Learn more about Bampton’s traditions
Bampton has a rich tradition of village clubs, societies and annual events that reflect its long rural history and strong sense of community.
The most famous custom is the Bampton Morris tradition, one of the oldest continuously performed Morris dancing traditions in England.
Other much-loved village traditions include the annual Shirt Race, Donkey Derby and Aunt Sally competitions, all of which appear in local celebrations and public events. These customs, together with the Morris dancing, help preserve Bampton’s distinctive character and sense of continuity with the past.
