The Bampton Community Archive was founded in 2002 to record, preserve and share the social history of this unique village in Oxfordshire.

History is being created every day, and preserving the story of Bampton and the surrounding community is something we can all take part in. The Bampton Archive exists to collect, safeguard and share the memories, records, photographs and stories that help future generations understand the life and character of our village and its people.
The archive is not only about distant history. Today’s events will become tomorrow’s heritage, which is why we welcome material relating to both the past and the present. This may include historical documents, family photographs, letters, maps, school records, programmes, newspaper cuttings, local club activities, village celebrations, community projects, sporting events and personal recollections. More recent material documenting life in Bampton today is equally valuable and helps ensure the archive continues to grow as a living record of the community.

What can be contributed and by whom
If you have discovered this website and have material that you believe may be of interest to others, we would be delighted to hear from you.
Contributions can be made by individuals, families, organisations, schools, clubs, businesses and community groups. Even a single photograph or short memory can provide an important piece of Bampton’s story.
Examples of material you may wish to contribute include:
- Historical family documents and photographs
- Memories or written recollections of village life
- Local event programmes, posters or newsletters
- School, church or club records
- Images of buildings, streets and landscapes
- Information about local traditions and celebrations

- Material relating to recent Bampton activities and events

To contribute material, please complete and submit the Contribution Form. Once received, all submissions will be carefully reviewed to assess their relevance and suitability for inclusion in the archive. Approved items will then be added to the Archive Database, where they can help build a richer and more complete picture of Bampton’s history.
Every contribution, no matter how small, plays an important role in preserving the heritage of the community. By sharing your documents, photographs and memories, you are helping to create a valuable resource for researchers, local residents, schools and future generations.
Before submitting material, please ensure that:
- You are the owner of the material or have permission from the owner to share it
- The material does not infringe copyright restrictions where applicable
- Digital files are provided in an appropriate format and are of suitable quality
- Any known details, dates, names or locations connected with the item are included where possible, as this greatly improves the historical value of the record
We are always grateful for new contributions and look forward to uncovering even more Bampton facts, stories and memories to add to the Archive Database. Together, we can continue preserving the unique history and character of Bampton for generations to come.
